Weird and Wacky

Classical music doesn't always follow the rules. Listen to some of the ways composers have used traditional instruments to make some not-so traditional sounds. Then you'll hear music made with something you'd expect to find in a trash compactor, not an orchestra pit!
1. Here's an orchestra imitating a sneeze.

2. Here's an orchestra imitating a donkey walking and braying.

3. Here's an orchestra imitating a typewriter.

4. Here's some music that's made by banging on old junk. (Is this really music? See what your classmates think.)

NOW YOU'RE THE COMPOSER

Let's say you wanted to imitate the sound of a pit full of rattlesnakes. What kinds of sounds would you use? Do you know the names of any instruments you could use to make those sounds?

If you were going to make music with something that had never been used as an instrument before, what would it be?
