MySourceWDAV is MySource for...

Mary Lautensleger ...excitement, inspiration, or peace - depending upon what is playing. I earned two degrees in music a long time ago, and I am amazed at how much orchestral repertoire I have forgotten. I have themes floating around in my head that I cannot name, until I hear them on WDAV. Thank you. God used my love for music to call me into full-time ministry.

Rev. Mary S. Lautensleger, Albemarle, NC
For great music and no commercials thank you DAV .

...calm and inspiration. I first started listening to WDAV on visits from Greenwich Village, NYC, to see my parents in Statesville. Your music was my choice to soothe me while I drove, as after decades without a car, driving is stressful and uncomfortable. However, it was in the past year that WDAV made a significant difference in my life. I made frequent visits to Statesville as my dad dwindled in health from Alheimer's disease. I would listen to WDAV as I drove to and from his nursing home to feed him breakfast and lunch. Your choice of music gave me a connection to heaven, where I knew Daddy was going. After he died, in April, 2007, I went to live with my mom, and I would listen to WDAV after I took her to dialysis and when I went to pick her up. The Mozart Cafe was my salvation! Her health declined steadily, and she passed away in December, 2007. WDAV got me through all those months and sad and difficult times by lifting up my soul and spirit with the celestial connection that comes with listening to great music. Thank you, WDAV!

...whatever I need it to be at the time. The music can be calming, soothing, uplifting, invigorating or just plain enjoyment; whatever I need at the time I'm listening.

Sandra Bigham, Matthews, NC
...taking me back to the past with all its excitement when I hear music from Mozart or Bach or taking me to wonderful exotic places from contemporary musicians like Copland or John Williams. I just can visualize the little burros kicking and braying around giant cacti in Mexico when I hear Copland's El Salon Mexico. The past comes to life for me when I hear one of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos because I can imagine I'm in one of those castles with royalty and experiencing all rewards of the social elite. I know there is no end to my imagination and music from WDAV helps to provide me with inspiration. Thank you for 30 wonderful years.

Kathy Pulliam, Salisbury, NC

...peaceful, inspiring music that sometimes I dance to or calm down. After 24 years of listening to your sublime music, I never get tired of it andlove to hear the selections yu play. My Bose radio makes the sound svery clear and lovely.

Musical sanity! I am a widowed grandmother whose loving daughter and family have invited me to live with them and we have a very happy household. However we have two teenaged boys in our family who love what they call music today. When I have heard it up to my limit, I go to my room, close the door, turn on the radio and WDAV saves the day! Many thanks to all of you who make this "classical music fix" possible for me.

WDAV is my source for, not only day-to-day musical enjoyment, but also the occasional goosebumps and hair standing up on the back of my neck kind of inspiration. My car radio is tuned to WDAV almost exclusively. I love listening every day as I go about my business, but every now and then one of WDAV's musical choices gives me an unexpected and uncanny spiritual jolt. It has happened more than once, and the latest was yesterday, Thursday, April 3, 2008. I had gone on a spring break family trip and was regretting that I had not gone to a church service or really even had a chance to stop and contemplate Easter in the hectic rush of traveling and vacationing. I was sitting in my car at 8 am waiting for a friend to join me for our morning walk when out of the blue, out of my radio speakers poured Bach's gorgeous Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring. Sometimes I get a bit of static in my reception of WDAV, but that morning it was as if the musicians were in the backseat. I sat transfixed, staring into the brightening blue sky through the greening branches of the big old trees around the old courthouse on Shelby's uptown square. It may have been serendipity, but to me, it was almost like a communication in a deeply affecting language that I love. WDAV's fortunate scheduling gave me my own personal and thrilling Easter moment. The last notes were fading as my friend pulled into her parking spot across the street. I wiped the tears from my face in time to join her and we walked, laughing and talking, into the quickening spring day.

WDAV is my escape from the crazy hectic world that is all around us. It's difficult to go through a day without hearing about all the problems and sometime horrible things that are happening around the world. Or get bombarded by repetitive commmericals for things you don't need or want or that are of inappropriate nature. My answer to all of this often depressing cocophany around us is WDAV, my island of calm. I listen during my hour long compute, all day long at work from the Internet, and whenever I can find some time to relax. I love the clasical music with just the right amount of news and information to keep me informed. Thanks WDAV.

Steven GradyWhen my grandson was only about a year or two old he would ride with me in my little Toyota truck and I always had WDAV on the radio. When he was able to talk and I didn't have the radio on, he would say he wanted to hear the "beautiful music", that's what he called it. Today he is 14 years old and plays in the band at his school, is on the A honor roll and a member of the Junior Beta Club. I asked why he decided to join the band and he said, "so I can make the beautiful music I listened to with you when I was little". Thank you WDAV for your "beautiful music" and for making my grandson a better person!

Steven Grady, Hickory, NC

WDAV - make a difference??? That is an understatement. I had recently gotten a computer with wireless connection and was going on a personal retreat, so took the computer along so that I could take YOU along. Was not there 24 hours and had a biking accident. Was alone, with fabulous people checking on me, for a long 24 houur period and how comforting it was to have WDAV soothing my broken leg and my spirits. Likewise, since arriving home all day and even in the middle of the night, you have relaxed and comforted me. I have always appreciated the station, but not like I do now. THANKS for your fabulous service to the community.

Dana Mitchell, Charlotte, NC

WDAV is my source for inspiration. Hearing the music lifts me to new heights. I treasure the beautiful classical music which streams from your studio each day. Thank you for adding quality music to enrich my life.

Sandra Chitty, Winston-Salem,NC

Serenity. Beautiful listening--I can't do without it. I have WDAV on at home and in the car as my constant companion. Thank you for being there.

...living! You are the soundtrack of my life! In my kitchen, in my car; at my desk at work; as I fall asleep each night. You are there for comfort, solace, encourgement and sheer joy. WDAV is such treasure! I travel to a large mid-western city for a week each month and there is no classical music station. My life seems so out of order without my beloved 'soundtrack'. I miss WDAV as much as I miss my family! You are so good to come home to!

WDAV is my source for classical music here in Fort Worth, Texas, through the streaming audio function of your website. I was introduced to your station last fall during the two weeks I spent in Rock Hill, SC painting my son's newly acquired residence. I found your station accidentally in the car while commuting back and forth between his temporary apartment in Charlotte down to Rock Hill, and then was able to get it on a small "painting radio" that he gave me to use while I was working. While I was listening, I heard you speak of your website on the air, and "tuned in" on my computer as soon as I got back to Texas. We have a nice classical station here in the DFW area, WRR-101 FM, that is owned by the City of Dallas, and over the years they have been my mainstay for classical music. But, under pressure for more revenue for the city, the numbers of advertisements playing each hour is now almost more air time than the music, and that is an unpleasant distraction. So, I was delighted to find your station on the internet, and I must say your announcers have more "class" than any classical music station or public radio station I have ever listened to!!! But, I won't need to listen over the internet for too long, as we are moving to the Charlotte area this summer!!!! .......Partly because of family connections, but greatly persuaded by knowing that the arts are represented well in the Charlotte area, as related by hearing about them on your station. So, I am greatly appreciate of your station, its format, and announcers, and plan to be a good on-going contributing member of WDAV.

George Gaissert, Fort Worth, Texas

The calm before the storm. I am an 8th grade Social Studies teacher and love my job. Each day brings unknown surprises, headaches and breakthroughs. I listen to your station on my commute and once I am in the classroom. I arrive early just to listen to the classical music and relax before the music of the students comes down the hall for another day!

Ruth Farakidis, Kannapolis, NC

Company in the middle of the night when I can't sleep...sanity when I'm stuck in traffic...NPR news on the hour...soothing, healing music when I'm sick and don't have the energy to even read...seasonal music when holidays roll around...a friendly voice when I'm trying to wake up in the morning...non-frantic traffic reports...Thank you for being there!

Laura Garrett, Charlotte, NC

Stacy Bottoms...painting inspiration. I began listening to classical music around age seven. I would place a small red radio under my pillow each night and enjoy the music. Today WDAV 89.9 plays while I paint in my studio. I now share classical music with my son during our drive to school each morning.
Thanks WDAV.

Stacy Bottoms, Mt. Pleasant, NC
...grounding my day in wonderful music and a constant reminder of the values instilled in me during my student days at Davidson. Your inspiration wells from my desk each day as I deal with clients in a residential treatment facility for those addicted to the external and transient peace of drugs.

Cam Davis, Harvey, LA
...beautiful sacred choral music throughout the year, but especially during the Christmas season. A special thanks to Mike McKay for introducing me to J.S.Bach's inspiring piano concertos! WDAV makes my day!

Emily Gulledge,Charlotte, NC
...a classical music education!  I am from CT and used to listen to the NYC classical stations but I am not musical and never learned much.  I know so much more now since living here 5 years.  But I would still listen anyway for the great music!

WDAV is my source for a connection to my hometown that I love!  I grew up in Charlotte, watching Mike McKay do the weather on Channel 3.  After living in CA, I returned to Charlotte where I became hooked on WDAV as a wonderful source of beautiful music that calmed me and taught me about the beautiful creations of classical masters.  Now I am back in Orange County CA, but connected to Charlotte everyday by streaming WDAV Live.  I love the music, the information on Charlotte but mostly the connection to the city that will always be in my heart - wherever I live!

Kay Brown, Laguna Hills, CA
Let me put it this way, MUSIC and of course, WDAV, is important to me for an awareness I have known all my life. Here it is: "I can well imagine a world without music. It would be called HELL."

Philip Gamble, Charlotte, NC
...the order and peace that come from music's discipline, especially from music of the Classical era.  "The Mozart Cafe" provides an all too brief respite from the hurley-burley of the work-day week.

Ann Marie Blackmon, Conover, NC
...Music education.  I enjoy hearing about the composers and the events or conditions under which the musical works were written.  I sing in the Hickory Choral Society, and when I hear a choral piece that I think would be appropriate for our group, I save the name and composer then let our conductor know.  Thanks for all you do.

Sara Boss-Isenhour, Hickory, NC
WDAV is my source for comfort. All my life I have listened to classical public radio, and WDAV helped soften the impact of leaving home when I came here to attend Davidson College.  WDAV provides me with a sense of comfort, a sense of home.

...healing and new beginnings.  One evening I was in my office preparing for Sunday worship.  I was listening on-line to WDAV.  A member came in unexpectedly.  He had recently suffered a loss.  He wanted to set up an appointment to talk.  As we chatted about what day and time would work, Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" begin to play.  I recall hearing the music but was not listening to it.  After we decided on a time to meet, my friend sat down in a chair.  I became concerned because he did more than just sit down.  He collapsed into the chair.  He said, "Let me just sit here for a moment."  I immediately asked him if he was okay.  He nodded yes, and I then got up and left the room to give him some privacy.  In time, he emerged from my office.  We said good night, and off he went.  When we met the following week as we had scheduled, he began by saying that those 10-15 minutes alone in my office were most helpful to him.  Matter of fact, in that time he was able to come to terms with his loss, and since then he was feeling as if he could now bring some closure to his heart ache.  I said, "Tell me what happened."  He explained that after we scheduled to meet he heard some music (the "Adagio") come over my computer.  He knew he had to listen to it.  He had never heard the piece before; he was not then a classic music listener (he is now, tho).  The music put him at peace in such a way he was able to "turn the page," as he said, in order to accept his loss and to begin again.  A few weeks later, my friend gave me a CD as a gift.  It was Barber's "Adagio for Strings."

Rev. Gus Succop, Charlotte, NC
Haunting, heart-stopping harmonies, (as in Faure's Pelleas et Melisande or Copland's Our Town).  Keep the cool chords coming, WDAV!

Gisele Schierhorst, Lake  Grove, NY
...life enrichment. As I listen to some classical pieces, I say a prayer of thanks to God for the gift of that music.

Frank Burns, Mint Hill, NC
...music of unsurpassed beauty.  From childhood on, all of my most cherished memories are tied to classical music--from seeing my father "conduct", watching cartoons and old movies, listening to my girlfriend play piano, weddings, special events, and introducing my sons to this music.

William Pollard, Fort Mill, NC
...informed commentary and literate presentation of classical music by a staff of committed professional hosts. It offers quiet sanity to ears assaulted by mindless noise pollution, "but wait" huckstering, and dumbed-down dialog. WDAV presents adult programming in the best sense of that abused word to listeners who seek a touch of the sublime in their daily lives. Long may it continue to do so.

Richard H.Rupp, Boone, NC
...spending special time with my dad.  I have completed 2 music degrees and am a Classical music lover.  Since I started college, I would always turn on  WDAV in the car whenever driving somewhere with my dad.  He is an avid country music fan, and doesn't much care for classical music.  I use this station to "teach" him about classical music, and he listens with me.  He can now distinguish (usually) the different style periods and even some genres (concertos, string quartet, symphony, sonata, etc.).  His favorite thing to listen to is the noontime "Mozart buffet" (as he calls it).  It has been a lot of fun for us to spend this time together listening to WDAV!

Sarah Evans, Charlotte, NC
Sometimes my sixth graders need some time out for acts that are not necissarily becoming a sixth grader.  They have silent lunch at "The Mozart Cafe", during which time WDAV is playing. The "punishment" has turned out to be quite ironic - I now have students asking permission to come to the "Cafe" just so they can listen to WDAV's "beautiful music".   One day the kids heard Jennifer thanking the audience for listening to The Mozart Cafe; they wanted to know if they were listening to us.  What a way to turn kids on to classical music!  You rock with my kids, WDAV!!!!

Connie Hance, Kernersville, NC
...my connection to history. Often in today's world we find our selves bogged down with traffic, bills, and other constraints of post-modern living. WDAV is my window or should I say earpiece to the past.

Bradley Baker, Bessemer City, NC
Wonderful classical music in the western part of the state and how & whenever I can receive the signal in Guilford County.

Tricia Mendelhall, High Point, NC
Companionship, in addition to the great music. I enjoy Mike McKay's cheerful voice waking me up in the morning and hearing his weather report. I enjoy Jennifer Foster with the Mozart Cafe at noon. And, I enjoy Frank Dominguez with his relaxing bedtime music.
