 Each summer, with blankets and picnic baskets in hand, millions of Americans enjoy classical music in the casual setting of music festivals. SummerStages takes its listeners on the road every week to summer music venues in the southeast. The 13-week concert series travels from the Brevard Music Festival to the Savannah Music Festival, then to the Norfolk's Virginia Art's Festival before finishing its summer tour at Charleston's Spoleto Festival USA. The coming weeks on SummerStages spotlight 8 celebrated conductors and solo performances by such renowned artists as violinist Daniel Hope, cellist David Finckel and pianists Stephen Prutsman and Andre Watts.
SummerStages is hosted by Lauren Rico, co-hosted by Matt Rogers and Dick Kowal.

 Our season closes like it began, back at the Brevard Music Center with their season finale, but this time festival director Keith Lockhart leads the orchestra and André Watts plays solo piano in Grieg's Piano Concerto in a minor. The concert also includes Dzubay's Shadow Dance and Berlioz' signature Symphonie Fantastique.

Spoleto Festival USA: Festival Orchestra and Choir Part 2
 SummerStages features another pair of concerts from the Spoleto Festival Orchestra and the Westminster Choir. Alexander Kahn leads the orchestra in Stravinsky's Concerto for String Orchestra and Wagner's beloved Siegfried Idyll and former Westminster director, Joseph Flummerfelt, returns to lead the choir and orchestra in Duruflé's Reqiuem and the Sabat Mater from Verdi's Quattro pezzi sacri.

Spoleto Festival USA: Festival Orchestra and Choir Part 1
 SummerStages travels to Charleston for one of the world's top summer music festivals: Spoleto Festival USA. Beyond the usual exhibition of guest soloists and chamber musicians, the festival recruits and auditions its own full orchestra each summer and employs the Westminster Choir for its larger scale productions. Featured here are two Russian masterworks from the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, joined by pianist Stephen Prutsman, and two British threnodic choral works from the Westminster Choir.

Brevard Music Center: German Romantics
 Swiss conductor Matthias Bamert teams up the Brevard Music Center Orchestra for a performance of Brahms' fourth and final symphony and Mendelssohn's overture to Ruy Blas. They are also joined by Canadian horn soloist Jeff Nelsen for a performance of one of Richard Strauss' earliest works: his first concerto for horn and orchestra. Brevard Music Center: Russian Masters
 We return to the serene Brevard Music Center in the heart of western North Carolina just in time to be shaken up by the explosive sounds of 19th and 20th century Russia! JoAnn Falletta leads the BMC Orchestra again in this all Russian program featuring saxophone soloist Joseph Lulloff in Glazunov's Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra, as well as the suite from Shostakovich's film score for the 1955 soviet film, The Gadfly, and Tchaikovsky's immortal fourth symphony.
