Jennifer Foster

Weekdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Jennifer FosterJennifer Foster began working at WDAV in 1987 while a student at Davidson College.  She has held several positions at the station since that time and is currently a full-time staff announcer/producer.

Classical music has been in the fabric of her life since infancy. Her father, a Presbyterian minister by trade, was also a composer, trumpeter and audiophile. Jennifer would accompany him to community orchestra rehearsals in her home town of Rockbridge Baths, Virginia, or to performances of works he'd written. She started raiding his extensive record collection in her teens and has been an avid listener and collector of classical music ever since.

While pursuing a degree in German at Davidson, she took a year to study in Vienna, Austria. It was there, after attending a powerful performance of Mahler's Symphony No.2, that she discovered her singing voice. She has sung with numerous local performance groups and church choirs. Her "big" moments include singing the role of Olga in CPCC Opera Theater's performance of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and premiering one of her father's compositions at a performance in Lynchburg, Virginia.

In the fall of 2004 Jennifer was chosen among applicants from across the nation to attend a production workshop held at Minnesota Public Radio through the Classical Music Initiative. She engineers, hosts and produces The Main Street Sessions for WDAV's Carolina Live! series.
