Violins of Hope Sunday, 4/7 at 3 p.m. and Monday, 4/8 at 7 p.m.
Violins of Hope is an original WDAV special, which consists of concerts performed at the Knight Theater and Dana Auditorium at Queens University in April 2012 during the Charlotte residency of the exhibit Violins of Hope. Presented by the UNC Charlotte College of Arts and Architecture in a variety of venues, the project displayed violins that survived the holocaust and were lovingly restored by Israeli craftsman Amnon Weinstein. In addition there were lectures and concerts, and the program features highlights from the musical performances.
Musical selections include Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins, Czardas by Vittorio Monti, the Violin Sonata No. 1 by Ernst Bloch, traditional klezmer music, and portions of the Brahms’ Piano Quintet in f minor. Performers include renowned violinist Shlomo Mintz. Sam Van Hallgren interviews craftsman Amnon Weinstein, violinist Shlomo Mintz and David Russell, the UNCC music professor who brought the project to Charlotte.
