Spoleto Festival Orchestra Concert
6/1/2013 @ 3pm

College of Charleston Sottile Theater
Stefan Asbury, conductor

Led by renowned conductor Stefan Asbury, a regular with the world’s leading orchestras and Chief Conductor of the Noord Nederlands Orkest, the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra presents a dazzling trio of orchestral showpieces. Bartók’s rarely-performed suite from the ballet The Wooden Prince is perhaps his most romantic and personal score, and is featured amidst works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Rachmaninoff that also have origins in folk music. Each of these energetic and brilliantly orchestrated works, with their virtuosic renderings of dance rhythms and lush melodies, represents the pinnacle of celebrating song with orchestral opulence.
