Mozart and Mahler
Heidi Meier, soprano; Christof Perick, conductor
Mozart: Abduction from the Seraglio, Overture
Mahler: Symphony No. 1, "Titan"
WDAV broadcasts the season-opener of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra live from the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s Mozart and Mahler concert program will be led by CSO Music Director Christof Perick and features soprano soloist Heidi Meier, who thrilled CSO audiences last May with her acclaimed performance in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. In this program, Maestro Perick and the CSO will lift the curtain on their new season with the Overture from Mozart’s 1785 opera The Abduction from the Seraglio. Ms. Meier will then appear with the CSO to sing a pair of concert scenes from the opera, which was the most popular and frequently-staged of all Mozart’s operas during the composer’s lifetime. The second half of the program will be devoted to Gustav Mahler’s epic Symphony No. 1 – the so-called “Titan”
Saturday, September 13, 8 p.m.
