Wednesday, 4/11/2012, 8 p.m.

Violins of Hope logo 120 pxViolins of Hope is an original WDAV radio documentary in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day. It tells the story of a project by master violin maker Amnon Weinstein to collect and restore violins played by Jewish prisoners in Nazi concentration camps. Other violins belonged to Klezmer musical culture, which was all but destroyed by the Holocaust.

The documentary features interviews with Amnon Weinstein; Artistic Director for the project David Russell, Professor of Music at UNC Charlotte; and renowned violinist Shlomo Mintz. Violins of Hope is presented in conjunction with the first visit to North America of the eighteen violins in the project, coming to Charlotte this month for a series of concerts, exhibits and lectures.

And listen for a preview of the Violins of Hope event at UNCC Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
