A Story Without Words

Before you begin, make sure you know 1) what a sorcerer is 2) what an apprentice is.

A young apprentice tries casting a spell to make a broom do his chores for him. He orders the broom to bring in water from the well to fill a tub. The broom obeys. But when the tub is full, the broom doesn't stop bringing in water. Soon, the tub is overflowing. The apprentice doesn't know how to cast a spell that will stop the broom. Frightened, he reaches for an ax and chops the broom in half. Then each half of the broom gets up and goes to the well to bring in more water! The sorcerer's cave is filling with water and the apprentice is swimming for his life when the sorcerer awakes from his nap and casts a spell to save them from disaster.
WHAT TO LISTEN FOR:

1. THE SORCERER. He sounds airy and mysterious. He casts a spell and then leaves his young apprentice alone in the room.

2. THE EAGER APPRENTICE.
He's excited about trying out the spell he's just overheard. He tells the broom to fetch water from the well.

3. THE BROOM OBEYS. You can hear it sprouting arms and legs. Then you'll hear it get up and go...and go and go!

4. WATER OVERFLOWING. You'll hear this, and you'll also hear the apprentice panic.

5. THE AX. You'll hear the apprentice chop the broom in two.

6. OOPS! Now there are two brooms bringing in water!

7. THE SORCERER CASTS A SPELL TO SAVE THEM.

8. THE BROOMS BREATH THEIR FINAL BREATH.

9. THE APPRENTICE HAS LEARNED HIS LESSON. (How does it sound like he feels about all this? Do you think he'll be a little more careful next time?)
