Voices of Angels

You will soon be listening to a type of music called choral music. It's music that is made by a group of people singing together. This group of singers is called a chorus or choir. When you hear it, it might make you think of something. That's because this kind of music is often used on TV and in movies when there are scenes of heaven, angels, paradise, or even space. It's also because this type of music is often sung in churches.

There is something special about music made with human voices. Music sung by human voices can sometimes grab our attention in a different way than music played on instruments.

In choral music, you not only have the power of music but also the power of a group of human beings all working together to make music with their voices. The result is something very special.

The choral music you will hear is sung in different languages. You might not understand the words. However, you will get feelings about what these pieces of music are about. Take your time and listen closely. In the box below, draw or write about what you hear in this music. What does this music make you think of? Does it take you somewhere? What does it remind you of? How does it make you feel? Calm? Excited? Peaceful? Thoughtful?
