Streaming FAQ's

  1. How do I install RealPlayer?
Either click on the RealPlayer® icon on our Listen Online page or click here to go to the Real.com™ site’s download page.  For detailed instructions about downloading and installing, visit http://real.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8878. You may also want to visit Real's Support Homepage.

  2. How do I install iTunes?
iTunes is now compatible with both Macintosh and Windows. Either click on the iTunes link on our Listen Online page or go to the Apple site's iTunes download page at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/. This page has information about system requirements.

  3. Can I listen to your mp3 streams with Windows Media™ Player?
The newest versions of Windows Media™ Player (7.0 and higher) on the newer Windows operating systems (2000, ME, XP) should play our mp3 streams. (But we have not always had good luck.) Windows Media Player 6.4 on Windows NT will not. If you have one of the new versions but can't get your player to launch when you click on the .pls or .m3u links on the Listen Online (link) page, cut and paste one of the following URL's into your player:

    24kbsp http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-24k
    64kbps http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-56k
    128kbps http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-112k

In tests so far, we have not had any luck getting the Macintosh version of WMP to play our streams. If you have better luck, please let us know. You can download Windows Media Player at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp

  4. How can I listen with other players?
If you have a different player from the one above and it doesn't launch itself, try cutting and pasting the following addresses into the location, open stream, or other URL entry area of your player:

    24kbps www.wdav.org/wdav-24k.pls or http://www.wdav.org/wdav-32k.m3u or http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-24k
    64kbps www.wdav.org/wdav-56k.pls or http://www.wdav.org/wdav-64k.m3u or http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-56k
    128kbps www.wdav.org/wdav-112k.pls or http://www.wdav.org/wdav-112k.m3u or http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-112k

  5. When I click on the links to listen, my player doesn’t launch. What should I do?
Whether or not your player launches automatically depends on how you have configured your personal system and whether or not you have designated a default MP3 player.
In Winamp you can type one of the following URL’s into the location window to play a stream. In RealPlayer, go to the File menu and choose Open. You can then type in the URL you want to use.

    24kbps www.wdav.org/wdav-24k.pls or http://www.wdav.org/wdav-32k.m3u or http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-24k
    64kbps www.wdav.org/wdav-56k.pls or http://www.wdav.org/wdav-64k.m3u or http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-56k
    128kbps www.wdav.org/wdav-112k.pls or http://www.wdav.org/wdav-112k.m3u or http://audio-mp3.ibiblio.org:8000/wdav-112k

In iTunesClick on "Advanced" and choose "Open Stream". Type one of the above URL's in the "Open Stream" dialog box and click "ok."

  6. Why is the stream cutting out and rebuffering?
If your computer is not receiving the stream data fast enough, you will experience drop-outs and rebuffering. The rebuffering occurs when your computer tries to catch up with missed data. Many times this is caused by Internet congestion or insufficient bandwidth. It can also happen when you try to connect to a stream that has a bit rate that is too high for your modem or connection speed.
If you’re having a problem with rebuffering, make sure you are using the stream that is best for your modem or way of connecting to the Internet. The 24kbps stream is recommended for 28k modems or faster. The 64kbps and 112kbps streams are recommended for cable modems, ISDN, DSL, and T1 connections. You can also try deleting temporary files, clearing memory cache, or rebooting your computer.

  7. What do I do if I get a message that asks me if I want to "save to disk" or "open file from location?"
    Choose "open file from location."

  8. Why can’t I connect to your stream?
There could be several reasons. Make sure your player(s) are installed correctly. Also, if you’re listening at work, you may be behind a firewall that won’t allow streaming. It is also possible that we’re having a problem on our end and the stream is down temporarily.

  9. I want to listen at work and may be behind a firewall. What should I do?
Ask your system administrator or IT department to open port 80 and port 8000 which support audio and video streaming.
