February is truly a month for classical music lovers. We’ve got great guests lined up, special contests and lots of romantic music coming your way. Here’s a quick heads up on features you won’t want to miss in the next couple of weeks.


Cellist Steven Isserlis Visits with WDAV

Steven IsserlisInternationally celebrated cellist Steven Isserlis joins the Charlotte Symphony this Friday and Saturday for performances of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto. Tune in Friday, 2/10 at 9:30 a.m. and again Saturday, 2/11 at 11:30 a.m. to hear him speak with WDAV’s Jennifer Foster about his music and career on the latest Weekly Arts Feature.

Classically Black: Florence Beatrice Smith Price

Florence Beatrice Smith PriceIn honor of Black History Month, WDAV is pleased to present another profile in the annual Classically Black series. This year, we’ll look at the life and work of composer Florence Beatrice Smith Price, the first black woman to have a symphony performed by a major American orchestra. Learn more about this historic and compelling figure – and hear her music – on Classically Black: Florence Beatrice Smith Price Sunday, 2/12 at 6 p.m.

Feel the Love This Valentine’s Day

Let WDAV help set the mood for your Valentine’s Day. From 6 am to 7 pm, we’ll offer a hourly Valentine’s selection to get you in the mood and spirit of the day. Starting at 9:00 pm, Frank Dominguez will host two hours of solid romantic classics – the perfect background for your Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Music@Menlo

Music@MenloThis new series of hour-long concert programs is produced by American Public Media and was recorded on-site in Menlo Park, California at the 2004 Music@Menlo summer chamber music festival. WDAV will air three more concerts Sundays at 4:00 pm, February 12th through February 26, 2006. Each program has an international theme – on Feb. 12th it's music of France. On Feb. 19th, they travel to Eastern Europe. Check the program listing at the WDAV's Music@Menlo page..
