Supported Radio
We
say it every day but it takes on ever new and increasing importance
at pledge time. In a week, WDAV will begin its spring on-air
membership campaign. This time out, we’re putting a
big emphasis on getting new folks to step forward and become
a part of WDAV’s member community.
We’ll
kick off the whole spring effort by hosting a special cyber
iPledge Day on Friday March 10th. This internet only
event will feature special music premiums as well a chance
to win an iPod® Nano with a radio remote! We hope to raise
approximately $14,000 from online supporters. So every dollar
really counts.
Check
out our other fabulous thank
you gifts and make your secure pledge anytime at the WDAV
Pledge Page. Whether you listen at home, in the car, or
via your computer – in Charlotte or Honolulu or London,
know how important you are to WDAV. Give what you can and
help keep this vital service strong and available. And thanks
for your support.
Carolina
Live: The New Season
Now
in its 14th year, WDAV’s Carolina Live: The
Concert Series showcases outstanding concert performances
from around our area. This year’s schedule promises
to be one of the best lineups yet. Host Mike McKay takes
you on a musical tour of the Carolina region each week
showcasing some of the best concert performances from
the past season. The new season opens this Sunday at
3:00 pm with the Greensboro Symphony led by Dmitry Sitkovetsky.
Check out the complete schedule at the Carolina
Live program page.
Weekly
Arts Feature: Cinderella
Tune
in Thursday, March 10th at 9:30 am for an inside look
at Opera Carolina’s upcoming production (March
9-12) of Rossini's La Cenerentola (That’s
Cinderella to those of us who don’t speak Italian).
WDAV’s Jennifer Foster visits with special guest
mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux. A bel canto specialist
and Grammy-nominated recording artist, Ms. Genaux sings
frequently with leading opera companies all over the
world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra
National de Paris, and Vienna State Opera. The feature
will be repeated Saturday, March 11 at 11:30 am. More
information available at WDAV’s
events calendar.
The
New York Philharmonic This Week
The
New York Times recently featured a thoughtful, glowing
review of the Philhamonic’s world premiere performance
of John Harbison’s Milosz Songs. It was
the kind of review that can make you wish you lived
in the Big Apple just so you could experience such unique
events. Well, on March 10th, WDAV will provide the next
best thing to being there as the New
York Philharmonic This Week will feature this spectacular
concert event. Robert Spano leads the orchestra, joined
by soprano Dawn Upshaw in a program that also includes
music by Bartok and Bernstein. Check it out Friday,
March 10 at 9:00 pm on 89.9 or online at wdav.org.
