Holocaust
Memorial Day – Special Program
WDAV
airs Hans Krása's children's opera Brundibár
in recognition of Holocaust Memorial Day. Brundibár,
a fairy tale of innocence triumphing over evil, was
performed by the children of the World War II Terezin
concentration camp. The broadcast features interviews
with a survivor who sang in the opera and with award-winning
playwright Tony Kushner who wrote the English libretto.
Airs Saturday, 5/3 at 6 p.m.
A
local talent takes it From the Top
This
week From the Top will feature 17-year-old
clarinetist Qiudi Zhang from Omaha, Nebraska, recent
recipient of a a $10,000 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist
Award. Through the generosity of the Jack Kent Cooke
Foundation, From the Top identifies
and awards scholarships to 25 deserving young musicians
each year. Qiudi is a senior at the arts boarding school,
North Carolina School for the Arts in Winston-Salem,
where she studies with Igor Begelman. At NCSA Qiudi
performs with both her school symphony orchestra and
wind ensemble. Tune in Saturday, May 3 at 5p.m.
