This Memorial Day Weekend on WDAV

Two special programs will be aired in commemoration of the holiday weekend. Beginning Sunday night at 9:30 p.m., tune in for a Memorial Day concert special featuring the Mormon Tabernacle Choir entitled Reverent Tribute. You'll hear performances works like “Goin’ Home” and “America the Beautiful,” plus a touching message to remember our fallen troops.

Then Memorial Day evening at 9 pm, WDAV welcomes host Martin Goldsmith and the Choral Arts Society of Washington D.C. in Celebrating the Choral Arts: A Memorial Day Special. The program includes Phillips Glass' Symphony No. 5 "Requiem" performed at Washington's famed Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Summer Concerts - June 2nd at Cornelius

The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra return to Bailey Road Park in Cornelius on June 2nd for the annual Pops in the Park concert hosted by the Town of Cornelius. The celebration begins at 7:00 pm and concludes with a fireworks display following the symphony's performance. Mike McKay will be on hand to serve as MC, and be sure and visit the WDAV tent to meet staff and sign up for some great door prizes. Hope to see there -- more information is available at our events calendar.

Coming up on Carolina Live

Carolina Live, WDAV's regional music program, offers some of the best "homegrown" classical music available. This weekend, May 27th, we'll feature a concert from one of Charlotte's most celebrated chamber music organizations - Chamber Music at St. Peters. The celebrated cellist Lynn Harrell is featured in a phenomenal performance of the Schubert String Quintet in C. Then June 3rd, the program hosts a choral sampler with performances from the Renaissance, as well as groups from Hickory and High Point. Tune in Sundays at 3:00 pm. See the complete schedule at the Carolina Live page.

Preview of Spoleto

For 17 days and nights each spring, the Spoleto Festival USA fills the historic theaters, churches and public spaces of Charleston, SC. From acclaimed operatic productions to the ever-popular chamber music series, from ballet classics to a tribute to the festival’s late founder Giancarlo Menotti, this year’s Spoleto Festival USA promises to be memorable. WDAV’s Jennifer Foster has a preview Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Other interviews and previews are available at our Interview Archives page.
