WDAV.ORG
Observes a "Day of Silence"
89.9
WDAV will join with thousands of U.S.-based webcasters
and radio stations with Internet streams for a Day
of Silence this Tuesday, June 26. As part of
this national effort, WDAV will shut down regular programming
on all three of its web streams on that day to draw
attention to a critical issue facing webcasters and
online radio. "Silence" is what Internet radio
may be reduced to after July 15th, the day on which
17 months' worth of retroactive royalty payments --
at new, exceedingly high rates -- are due to the SoundExchange
collection organization, following a recent Copyright
Royalty Board (CRB) decision. These rates threaten to
force many, if not most, webcasters out of business
and will adversely impact WDAV’s efforts to provide
its 24-hour classical music service online. Click
here to learn more about this important issue and how
you can get involved.
Denyce
Graves in Margaret Garner
If
you missed seeing acclaimed soprano Denyce Graves in
Opera Carolina's 2006 production of the new American
opera, Margaret Garner, WDAV will offer two
chances for you to experience this exciting event. Saturday,
June 30th, the OC production will be the featured opera
on on the nationally distributed NPR's World of
Opera, aired locally at 7:00 pm EST on 89.9 WDAV.
Since this is a broadcast with such local significance,
we will repeat it the very next day, Sunday July 1st
at 3:00 pm. And if you're outside the locally listening
range, don't forget you can also tune in online at www.wdav.org.
Go
for it -- and Get Away
We've
got one week left to reach our member goal for this
fiscal year and we're going for it -- with your help!
If you've already made your contribution to WDAV, we
thank you. If not, we
hope you'll take a moment to contribute online.
And while you're there find out how you could be sitting
second row center at the Andre Watts concert in Brevard
on July 9th. Find
out more about the Brevard Weekend Getaway contest at
our web site.
NEW
SHOW! The MTT Files -- Starts Saturday, June
7th
After
a life-time in music conductor Michael Tilsson Thomas
has a story or two to tell and tell them he now does
as the host of an exciting new radio program, The
MTT Files. During this eight-week series
Tilsson Thomas metaphorically pulls out some of his
"files"— full of ideas about music and
art, and reminiscences of the legendary artists he's
known throughout his career. Throughout he is ably supported
by the "house band" in the San Francisco Symphony.
The series kicks off with "You Call That Music?"
where Thomas explores the question of what's music and
what's noise, and demonstrates that noise is in the
mind of the listener. The MTT Files debuts on WDAV on
Saturday, July 7th at 2:00 pm.
