World Choral Spectacular

In 2005, 24 phenomenal choirs gathered in Kyoto Japan for 8 days of truly amazing performances, the variety and diversity of which will surprise and delight listeners. WDAV is airing four one-hour “best of the best” specials featuring these breathtaking concerts. World Choral Spectacular airs Sundays at 7:00 p.m, during the month of September. Weekly Arts Feature: Winston-Salem Symphony Season Opener

Robert MoodyThe Winston-Salem Symphony is set to kick off a new series of concerts. Music Director Robert Moody spoke with WDAV about the season-opener. WDAV Celebrates Shostakovich's 100th

Dmitri ShostakovichSeptember 25th marks the 100th birth anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich, perhaps the greatest figure in 20th century music. WDAV will celebrate with special programs and features to mark the occasion.

Friday, 9/22, 9 p.m. – The New York Philharmonic This Week performs a program devoted to Shostakovich.
Sunday, 9/24, 3 p.m. - I Remember Shostakovich, a special program features first-hand recollections from artists such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Kurt Masur, and Mstislav Rostropovich.
Monday, 9/25, 7 p.m. – Shostakovich is the featured subject of Performance Today.

High Holidays Specials

Leonard NimoyWDAV, Classical Public Radio, will present two specials in conjunction with the Jewish High Holy Days. This two-part series, hosted by veteran actor Leonard Nimoy, illuminates the important prayers of the season and features some of the most inspiring music of the Jewish liturgical tradition. Focusing on the universal themes of redemption and divine forgiveness, the series features music performed by the celebrated Western Wind Vocal Ensemble, four guest cantors, several other noted singers, and a shofar player.

Birthday of the World, Part I: “Rosh Hashanah: Music and Traditions of the Jewish High Holy Days” – Sunday, September 24 at 6:00 p.m.
Birthday of the World Part II: “Yom Kippur: Music and Traditions of the Jewish High Holy Days” – Sunday, October 1 at 6:00 p.m.
