Classical Musings – On the Blog this week

Have you checked out WDAV’s new blog Classical Musings? WDAV’s midday host Jennifer Foster wrote this week – “I've been tracking Charlotte Composer David Crowe's progress from commission to performance of a new work based on paintings by Nicholas Roerich…… To keep me up to date, David's been leaving messages on my cell phone which I can share with you by way of this blog.” Read more about this fascinating project and share your comments at Classical Musings.

Tunes from the Crypt Returns

It's creepy and it's kooky – and it's classical! Set your teeth a chatterin' and your spine a tinglin' Halloween night with some of the scariest classical music around. Tunes from the Crypt MMVI is bringing its creepy sound effects and monstrous music back to WDAV 89.9. Tuesday, October 31st at 9 p.m.

Taking it From The Top

Be part of a live radio audience! Enter our special From the Top contest to win tickets to see the Charlotte taping at CPCC’s Halton Theatre on November 9th. From the Top is heard on over 250 public radio stations across the country. The live taping will feature the Charlotte Children’s Choir as well as other local and regional teen talent. It’s a terrific event you don’t want to miss. Read more about it at the WDAV Events Calendar.

Minnesota Orchestra

If Beethoven’s your man, you won’t want to miss the November 5th installment of the Minnesota Orchestra on WDAV. It’s an all Beethoven program featuring the Overture to Fidelio and Symphonies 1 and 3. Osmo Vänskä conducts. Check out the Minnesota Orchestra page for a schedule of upcoming programs – and links that allow you download previous installments. Sundays at 12 noon on WDAV.

Houston – We have an Opera!

The Houston Grand Opera is featured throughout the month of November on NPR’s World of Opera in productions of popular favorites Don Pasquale, Manon Lescaut, and Carmen. But the November 18th program offers something truly special -- Tony Award-winning Broadway star Audra McDonald takes to the opera house in a tour-de-force -- a one-woman double-bill of Poulenc's classic one-act The Human Voice and the world premiere of John LaChiusa's Send. Read more at WDAV’s World of Opera page. Saturdays at 7:00 pm on WDAV.
