New Program - Sacred Classics airs Sunday a.m.

From sacred choral music to instrumental works, Sacred Classics can help create a sanctuary of sorts, where you can find your center and be refreshed. This one-hour program is a showcase for choral music selected for its power to speak to the emotions. According to host Stephanie Wendt, the musical choices create a setting for spiritual introspection and affirmation. Sacred Classics will air Sundays at 7 a.m. on WDAV beginning December 3rd.

Three programs have a specific Thanksgiving theme and two others celebrate the vocal and choral traditions.

A thoughtful mix of orchestral, chamber, and vocal music, bringing a variety of melodies from America and Europe to the table as well as tuneful works from a number of notable Americans like Aaron Copland and Charles Ives. Mark Perzel hosts this year's edition of this Thanksgiving classic.

Giving Thanks 2006 - Friday, 11/24, 5 p.m.

Angela Gheorghiu: A Portrait - Saturday, 11/25th, 7 p.m.
A two hour biographical profile of the great virtuoso soprano to mark her recent and upcoming U.S. appearances. It features a specially recorded interview about her life and career, and numerous samples of her performances.

America Sings! - Sunday, 11/26, 7 p.m.
Acclaimed American choral master Philip Brunelle leads his own VocalEssence ensemble from Minnesota and members of 17 different Washington, DC ensembles in a kaleidoscopic history of choral music in the USA: from the colonial anthems of William Billings, to the African-American choral tradition personified by Harry Burleigh, to barbershop quartets, to the inspiring works of Leonard Bernstein.

A Cause to Give Thanks: Mormon Tabernacle Choir - Sunday, 11/26, 9:30 p.m.
The Orchestra at Temple Square joins the choir for a program of music and readings to express gratitude and thanksgiving.
