The
big Christmas holiday weekend approaches and WDAV has
planned a spectacular line-up of seasonal specials.
It's all designed to celebrate the season with great
music, calm you during the final shopping frenzy and
enrich your holiday experience.

THURSDAY, 12/20
7 p.m.–
Handel’s Messiah with the Winston Salem
Symphony.
A great chance to hear a fine local symphony in a recording
made just last week (December 13 & 14) at the Stevens
Center in Winston Salem. Robert Moody conducts.
SATURDAY, 12/22
The Winter Solstice
3
pm - The Christmas Revels: A Celebration of the Winter
Solstice 2007.
An all-new, compilation of country dance tunes, carols,
songs and motets excerpted from Revels celebrations
performed in 2006. This multicultural Winter Solstice
sampler features multi-national music from the Middle
Ages through the 20th century.
7 pm - Handel's
Messiah from Philadelphia
A special presentation of Handel's complete holiday
masterpiece, recorded live at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia
and performed by the "Fabulous Philadelphians"
-- one of the world's great orchestras, joined by the
nationally-renowned Philadelphia Singers Chorale.
MONDAY, 12/24
Christmas Eve

am A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols -- LIVE!
This trans-Atlantic live broadcast tradition continues
with the world-famous Christmas Eve service from King’s
College, Cambridge, England.
5 pm - A Chanticleer
Christmas 2007
The twelve men of Chanticleer weave their magic offering
inspiring sounds of the season. A Chanticleer Christmas
celebrates the mystery and wonder of Christmas with
an elegant blend of traditional carols, medieval and
Renaissance sacred works, and moving spirituals.
TUESDAY, 12/25, Christmas Day

am – Noon - Christmas Morning with Mike McKay
The warm presence of WDAV’s “morning man”
is complemented by a wealth of holiday favorites drawn
from the station’s extensive music library.

pm - Christmas with the Philadelphia Singers 2007
An annual favorite, "Christmas with the Philadelphia
Singers" is a concert of traditional and contemporary
holiday music performed by the renowned choral group.
SATURDAY, 12/29
3 pm - Bach's
Christmas Oratorio
World famous Carnegie Hall is the setting for this encore
concert performance of selections from one of the most
joyful and sumptuous works from Johann Sebastian Bach,
the Weihnachts-Oratorium, or Christmas Oratorio. The
Collegiate Chorale performs three of six sacred cantatas,
each depicting a different scene from Christ's birth,
along with some traditional holiday favorites.
TUESDAY, 1/1/08,
New Year’s Day
11 am –
1 pm -New Year's Day from Vienna - LIVE!
WDAV takes you directly to the Golden Hall of the Musikverein
in Vienna for the most popular classical music concert
in the world, the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Day
concert. Korva Coleman hosts this exciting, lively celebration
that offers the next best thing to actually being there!
