Taste of Chanukah

Actor
Theodore Bikel hosts an evening of traditional, high-spirited
storytelling and music featuring over 150 musicians
from the New England Conservatory, the Boston Community
Choir, and other ensembles, all recorded live at the
Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston. Enjoy the
special contributions of cantor Morton Shames and humorist
Chasia Segal, who demonstrates how to cook perfect potato
latkes.
The
New York Philharmonic This Week Holiday Special
Friday December 22 at 9:00 pm
The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra joins Loren Maazel
and the Philharmonic for a festive concert featuring
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, as well
as Duke Ellington’s arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s
famous music.
Handel’s
Messiah from the Philadelphia Orchestra
Saturday, December 23 at 7:00 pm
A new edition of the holiday classic performed in the
Kimmel Center. Handel's holiday masterpiece performed
by the "Fabulous Philadelphians" -- one of
the world's great orchestras, joined by the nationally-renowned
Philadelphia Singers Chorale.
Lessons
and Carols from Washington’s National Cathedral
Sunday, December 24 at 6:00 pm
Each
Christmas Eve, the Cathedral hosts a quietly spectacular
Lesson and Carols, one of its most attended and cherished
events of the year. The service combines biblical readings
that chronicle the story Jesus' birth with age-old and
all-new carols, from folk to ethereal polyphony. Among
the service's many distinctions is the sound of its
Girl Choristers, the finest in North America.

Pops with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops
Monday, December 25 at 12 noon
All-time favorites played by “the world’s
most famous orchestra” (and one of its most popular
conductors!) on their home turf -- Symphony Hall in
Boston -- performing music for the holidays under the
leadership of charismatic conductor Keith Lockhart.

Chanticleer Christmas
Monday, December 25 at 5:00 pm
The
all-male vocal ensemble that’s been called “an
orchestra of voices” sings everything from Renaissance
hymns to Joseph Jennings’ close-harmony arrangements
of holiday classics. One of our most popular holiday
programs recorded in the beautiful acoustics of St.
Vincent's Church in Petaluma, California.

World of Opera Holiday Special: Humperdinck's Hansel
and Gretel
Saturday, December 30 at 7:00 pm
Since its premiere on December 23rd, 1893, this fairy
tale opera has been a holiday classic. The Milwaukee
Symphony's production showcases stellar performances.
Bach’s
Christmas Oratorio
Sunday , December 31 at 3:00 pm
A Carnegie Hall concert performance of one of the most
joyful and sumptuous works from Johann Sebastian Bach
-- his collection of six sacred cantatas for the Christmas
season.

Year’s Day from Vienna 2007

Live
broadcast from Vienna of the perhaps the most popular
classical concert in the world, heard in every corner
of the globe. The traditional program features music
by the Strauss family and others. |
